Matte Peel Stick

Cat's fur/skin is peeling off his forehead?
I noticed my cat's normally soft forehead was feeling thick and sort of matted-like there was gunk or glue stuck to it. I went to take a closer look and parted his fur-when I did, a big chunk of skin with fur attached just came right off. I can see that the surrounding area also looks like it could be peeled away. There was no blood and he doesn't seem to be in pain. I'm pretty sure my cat's not a zombie. What could this be?
He is a medium to long-haired cat, but his forehead fur is obviously short. He has escaped outside a few times.
Hi
At first I thought flea allergy - as I rescued a dog from a kennels once with flea allergy - bald areas.
But I think your cat has had an injury that has gone to a scab, which is what is peeling away taking his fur with it, the fur should grow back once the skin is healed fine, it could have been a burn or big graze depending on how much skin is peeling, the thickness of the scab would determine the extent of the injury but if its peeling it is healed mostly.
I would not let the cat scratch it too much when possible but other than that it seems to be healing, if you are that worried take him top a vet and get some antibiotics just in case of infection setting in.
Good Luck
